globeandmail.com: Police set to turn spotlight on Liberal officials

Well, not quite.

An important piece of the story that will likely be forgotten by anyone with an axe to grind against the Liberal party is the fact that the party is really a victim in all of this.
Having focused on issues of fraud since 2002, the Mounties sent a clear message last week they are now looking at allegations of influence peddling, laying charges against former federal Liberal official BenoƮt Corbeil.

Sources said the RCMP is hoping to go higher up the Liberal hierarchy than Mr. Corbeil, the former director-general of the Liberal Party's Quebec wing, who is accused of taking a bribe from a businessman and defrauding the party.
Unless someone can show systemic corruption within the party, this should not tarnish the whole party. The whole party will have some explaining to do, but it is a big stretch to say the entire party is corrupt.

Similarly, it is a stretch to say the entire CPC are guilty of election fraud. However, their current leadership is much more closely tied to the problem than the current Liberal leadership is to the 6 year old Sponsorship investigation.

This story tells me that the RCMP are doing this now to take the heat off Stephen Harper....The RCMP are no longer trustworthy...stirring up the last election with the Income trust scandal and now this...what has happened to Canada or has it been this way all along. I have even lost "my loving feeling" for Goodale who now sounds like a member of the NDP.

a.l. how can you be so sure of that?

Dion wanted Cote welcomed back into the fold, seconded by Marlene Jennings.

But smarter Libs howled and Dion was over-ruled.

Cote was the Lib who got a lifetime ban for passing out stolen money, in $100 bills stuffed into envelopes,
to 12 Quebec candidates.

Was Dion one of the recipients of the stolen cash that Cote handed out?

Will Canadians ever be told who the recipients were?
Did Libs steal the election with laundered ad money?

Wilson - you are nuts - absolutely a partisan story maker-upper.

Pathetic.

Oh, but Wilson is just exhibiting the conservative's favorite thing about sponsorship. It is BETTER to just go on and always hint at something malicious, sinister, deep, and pervasive than to admit that like most scandals there were missteps and wrongdoing confined to a few.

The reason it is the gift that keeps giving is not because they get to keep hammering the liberals on it, it's the fact that they can attribute it to any sinister corruption they wish.

I marvel at the morphing of arguments, such as Wilson exhibited. I'm still waiting for the day when someone suggests innocent children were sold into child slavery as a result of the funds exchanging hands during the sponsorship scandal.

It's pretty doubtful, eh, but do we really KNOW that it didn't happen!!!!!

See, try it, it's fun.
