Let the games begin - Redux
The Globe and Mail: Liberals mull February budget
We saw many games and shenanigans last May, and here they come again...
I think that Harper would be foolish to attempt to bring down the government this fall given the current poll numbers showing the Liberals forming a majority government and the Conservatives not garnering enough support to mount a credible challenge.
That said, things can change awfully fast during an election campaign. I would predict that unless: a) the Liberals are rocked by the Nov. 1 Gomery report, translating into a precipitous drop in their poll numbers and/or b) the Conservative party's poll numbers jump significantly... there will not be a risky fall election.
After the second Gomery report, all bets are off. It shouldn't be as damaging, but if the Liberals are able to weather the storm and the Conservatives continue to languish in a distant second, then Paul controls the timing.
A.n optimistic Liberal.
