Edwards: "I'm Out"

Disappointing news today. Our man is dropping out.

The armchair "Josh Lyman" in me says the calculation here is to stop bleeding away the "change" votes from Obama and consolidate the anti-Clinton votes in upcoming primary states.

It certainly throws all the recent Dem polls for a loop.

Your rationale doesn't make any sense. If he wanted to endorse Obama, he would endorse obama but hasn't.

And no poll has ever shown Edwards support going to Obama, more than Clinton, quite the opposite.

She gets 40% of his voters. He gets 25%, in recent polls. It most certainly helps her in the south and midwest.

His supporters are white, unions, lower income and a fair share of hispanics. All these demographics favour Clinton. obama may pick up some male voters but not that many.

She also does consistently better than him in debates and that will now become more obvious.

Clinton will benefit more than obama from this move and that is certainly not why he left the race. He left because he was out of money and didn't want to look even worse leaving later. It's sad when the planes stop flying.
